Some suggestions

I think it will be an iterative approach as you sort out the entries into real and non-real. You can write code to use known patterns (e.g. single names, names with "generic" in them etc) to identify obvious non-person entries, and interrogate Active Directory and/or your HR system to find exact name matches. This might deal with 80-90% of your entries, and then you can process the rest manually. And yes a flag in the Person document would be very handy.
